Cicadas are on their way. NC’s crop of annual cicadas will pop out from their underground homes to make some noise across central NC. Thankfully, we won’t see any additional cicadas this year like our neighbors in Western NC. (WRAL)
History
In April 1865, Raleigh nearly burned to the ground after Union soldiers descended upon Oak City during the Civil War. The soldiers came to Dix Hill — now part of Dix Park — to burn Raleigh, but one man negotiated to keep the city as is. Read the whole story.(The News & Observer)
