Raleigh’s new tennis and paddle facility Swing breaks ground

Swing Racquet and Paddlethe first complex of its kind in the world — has broken ground in Raleigh. The approx. $125 million project near Brier Creek will feature various courts and a ping pong lounge with plenty of room for socializing. The campus will also include a restaurant led by celebrity chef Fabio Viviani.

The facility and courts will be open to both seasoned + new players. A walking trail will run through the center of the 44-acre campus, connecting Swing to Raleigh’s greenway trail system.

The sports and the courts

Swing will have 70+ places to play five different sports, including:
  • 28 tennis courts (clay and hard)
  • 25 pickleball courts
  • 15 padel courts
  • Four beach tennis + volleyball courts
“Swing will offer much-needed court inventory while becoming a vital community hub where deeper connections and unforgettable memories are made” said Rob Autry, Founder and CEO of Swing Racquet + Paddle in a press release.

As one of the fastest growing sports in the US, pickleball has created more of a demand for playing spaces. Swing’s flagship campus is projected to hit $360 million of economic impact in its first three years with more than one million visitors to the Raleigh area annually.

The facility’s projected completion is in 2026.

Civic
  • This November voters will have to follow the new ID rules. The State Board of Elections approved 12 new IDs that will be accepted, including some student IDs. The use of electronic identification cards were denied but will be further discussed in a meeting later this month. View the full list of approved IDs. (WRAL)

  • The City of Raleigh is initiating the two and a half year process of creating the next Comprehensive Plan for the city. Planners will spend the first year engaging with residents and learning about the community’s vision. Affordable housing will be the first conversation and will occur this Saturday, Aug. 17.

  • Wake County Public School System is asking residents to donate to the Angel Fund in an effort to offset costs for students who cannot afford school-provided lunch. Community members who would like to donate should call Child Nutrition at (919) 856-2918. (The News & Observer)

🏡 Duke Energy offers support to NC families

Duke Energy offers energy bill assistance for NC families experiencing financial hardship

Duke Energy is supporting NC families experiencing adverse financial circumstances combat high energy bills during the summer months through its Share the Light Fund. The Share the Light Fund works with over 100 agencies throughout NC to assist qualifying customers in paying their energy bills, deposits, and other associated charges.

Although not all customers meet the qualifications to receive financial assistance, Duke Energy has additional savings and assistance programs readily available to all.

Those programs include:
  • Usage alerts: Customers are informed of how much electricity they’ve used and its accumulated before the billing period ends.
  • Home energy house calls: Energy professionals visit homes to assess for efficiency and offer free sources that assist with preserving energy.
  • Budget billing: This helps ease the impact of higher bills by evening monthly payments.
  • Payment plans: Available for customers who need the flexibility of installments.
