Element Gastropub | 421 Fayetteville St., Ste 103, Raleigh | 11 a.m.-9 p.m. | Barbecue can be for everyone, not just carnivores. Element is a 100% vegan spot, serving plant-based southern + barbecue favorites.

Midwood Smokehouse | 409 W. Johnson St., Raleigh | 11 a.m.-9 p.m. | They’ve got the meats and sides like coleslaw + barbecue baked beans to entice any taste bud.

The Pit Authentic Barbecue | 328 W. Davie St., Raleigh | 11 a.m.-10 p.m. | Filled with southern classics + famous plates, this spot has the down home dishes and flavors you’re looking for.

Snoopy’s Hot Dogs and More | Various locations | 10:30 a.m.-8 p.m. | Keep it simple with the flavorful beef hot dogs this place has to offer.

Weather

High temperatures in the Triangle are returning in time for the holiday weekend with numbers surpassing 100 degrees through Saturday. The heat index will range between 103 + 108 degrees, which may require a heat advisory. Watch for heat illness symptoms for the next three days. Stay cool, Raleigh. (CBS 17)

Go Pack! but with a British accent. Yesterday, former Wolfpack tennis player Diana Shnaider advanced to the third round at Wimbledon and will face off with Charleston-born Emma Navarro tomorrow, July 5. NC State alum Amelia Rajecki also won first round in women’s doubles and will play today, July 4, at 9:50 a.m. EST.

Independence Day. America has celebrated this day for 248 years, since the Declaration of Independence was formally adopted on July 4, 1776. Round up the kids, friends, or just yourself and head to Dix Park for a firework show or explore more options.

Pets

Wake County Animal Center is close to capacity, and we want to introduce you to some furry friends available for adoption. Meet Boe, a handsome two-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier who is very energetic and loves squeaky balls. Adopt Boe or another animal to help the animal center + save a life.

Sports

The Carolina Canes have signed defensemen Riley Stillman to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2024-25 NHL season. Stillman has earned 26 points in his 158 career NHL games + we’re looking forward to seeing him on the ice this season.
