Early voting is well underway in Wake County with less than a week left to cast ballots before election day on Tuesday, March 5. Here’s your quick and easy guide to making your vote count in the 2024 primaries, without having to brave the polling sites next Tuesday.

First off, make sure you’re registered and bring a valid photo ID. Check Wake County’s full guidelines, but in short, bring your driver’s license, state ID, passport, or another approved ID to your polling location. If you aren’t registered, you can update your status at an early voting site.

Wake County voters can vote early 13 different polling locations; Raleigh ballot boxes include NC State’s Talley Student Union and John Chavis Memorial Park.

Remember: Primary elections narrow down party-specific nominees, including those for president and NC officials like governor, treasurer, and attorney general. Read up on the candidates and use a sample ballot, available when you check your registration status.

You might have heard I visited Oklahoma City last weekend for a pair of NBA games. I’d love to see some of OKC’s amenities in Raleigh, like the city’s streetcar, which winds through downtown via rail at just $1 an hour or $3 for the whole day, and the Bricktown Canal, a short human-made river lined with water taxis, events, and local biz.
