Are you ready to do better in your community, Raleigh? Well, here’s your chance to make a difference. We are teaming up with The Great Raleigh Cleanup for an Earth Day Extravaganza on Sunday, April 21 in Moore Square, and you’re invited.

With a “do better” mentality, this all-day celebration will be filled with service, activities, and vendors to show support for our environment, highlight ways to become more eco-friendly, and raise funds for our friends at TGRC who have removed more than 107,379 pounds of litter from the City of Oaks since 2020.

The sustainable fun will kick off in the morning with a run hosted by FleetFeet, followed by a relaxing flow on the lawn led by YogaSix. Next, TGRC and RALtoday will pick up trash around the city with help from volunteers during a community cleanup (psst… this could be you).

Help us celebrate the planet with eco-friendly activities, sustainable vendors, a community cleanup, and more.

After beautifying downtown, you’ll want to take a walk through our Earth Day Market to meet local environmentally conscious vendors like Haven Farm + Fillaree, grab a bite from a food truck, and to participate in demonstrations and a massive plant swap with The Houseplant Hippie.

DJ Handsome Robb will keep the good vibes going by providing the tunes, and the day will come to a close with popcorn and a showing of “Wall-E” on the lawn.

Already have plans? Don’t worry, you can show your support for this nonprofit by volunteering at an upcoming cleanup or by donating to help reach TGRC’s goal of $100,000 to keep truckin’ along... but we do hope to see you there.

Bonus: If you’re a sustainable, local business looking to participate in our Earth Day Market or want to become a sponsor for the event, fill out an interest form.

So, can we count on you to join us the day before Earth Day on Sunday, April 21? Let us know below — registration isn’t required.

Will Garner’s cherished groundhog Snerd see his shadow?

Today’s the day, friends. Though we feel a void in the wake of Sir Walter Wally’s retirement last year, we’re excited for Garner’s beloved furry weather expert Snerd to pop out of his hole and give his official prediction this Groundhog Day.

From 10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., meet in Garner’s White Deer Park — only ~20 minutes outside of downtown Raleigh — for a Groundhog Day Celebration featuring Snerd, NC’s official weather-predicting groundhog who has a track record of seeing his shadow (six out of nine years).

Remember: Legend has it that if the groundhog sees its shadow, six more weeks of winter lie ahead. If not, an early spring is expected. Let’s hope for the latter.

Snerd will make his prediction at 12 p.m. sharp, but show up early to see live animals, visit educational booths, meet Smokey Bear, and enjoy storytime on the stage.

Tell us your prediction.

From the editor
Triangle on the Cheap recently shared a useful list of where to find used bikes, sporting goods, and fitness equipment in the Triangle. That reminds me — I received one of the most thoughtful gifts this Christmas. My fiance hand picked used clubs from Play it Again Sports to create my very own first golf club set. He’s an avid golfer and I love to watch, but now I can’t wait to hit the tees myself this spring — watch out, Nick.
