Hi friends, City Editor Cat here. Since this weekend’s weather is calling for clouds, it could be a perfect time to head to the NCMA for the “Dutch Art in a Global Age” exhibit. On display until January 7, 2024, this exhibit features works of Dutch paintings from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Tickets are $20 for nonmembers, and free for members.

Veterans Day Event Ceremony | Saturday, Nov. 11 | 11 a.m. | North Carolina State Capitol grounds, 1 E. Edenton St., Raleigh | Free | The Wake County Veterans Council will lead this ceremony to honor Wake County veterans.
Autumn Yoga with Unita | Saturday, Nov. 11 | 2-3:30 p.m. | NC Museum of Art, 2110 Blue Ridge Rd., Raleigh | $30 | Enjoy zero-proof cocktails, live atmospheric sound, and a grounding flow.
Art for LGBTQ+ Rights at RUMAH | Saturday, Nov. 11 | 2-5 p.m. | Raleigh United Mutual Aid Hub, 415 Hillsborough St., Raleigh | $0-$40 | This mixed media class will discuss art that deals with topics of identity, past/present/future, culture, and politics and the LGBTQ+ community.

Western, NC is a great year-round road trip destination to beat the heat in the summer, take a scenic drive in the fall, and hit the slopes in the winter.

There are an abundance of activities to choose from in the NC Highcountry, but here are a few of favorites.

Why go? At an elevation of 5,496 ft., Grandfather Mountain and its famous mile-high swinging bridge are a must-visit for the scenic views, wildlife, hiking trails, and picnic areas.
Act like a local: Get your Southern food fix at Dan’l Boone Inn, which has been serving homecooked meals for over 50 years. The Boone staple regularly makes Southern Living’s lists of “best country cooking restaurants.”
Where to stay: Vrbo: Bright Boone Home, stay just a short walk to downtown and the Daniel Boone Native Gardens. ($363/night).
