Last night was the first game of the Hurricanes regular season, and fans got a taste of what’s new this year at PNC Arena. Psst... even if you’re not a hockey fan, you’re going to want to prep for this year’s stacked lineup of concerts and events at PNC, like Shania Twain and the Eagles.

New food

Colombian-Mexican food spot Gonza Tacos Y Tequila and The Optimist Raleigh’s coffee cart are now open. Gonza’s sections 112 and 130 stands include top-quality nachos, tacos, and quesadillas, and The Optimist’s lineup includes hot + cold lattes, matchas, and hot chocolate to warm you up near the ice.

Coming later this month is North Hills’ The BBQ Lab in The Priority Lounge. Priority Lounge and Club Level ticket holders will get to munch on brisket, smoked turkey, and staple barbecue sides in sections 105 and 120.

Sweet Carolina, a self-serve candy station, is also coming soon to section 105 with assorted sweets and candies.

Old favs are getting better

Raleigh-based health food eatery Happy + Hale will expand its offerings with a new hot bowl and its signature Dragonade. Also based in Raleigh, Buffalo Brothers Pizza & Wing Co. will now offer pizza with scratch-made dough on the Club Level in the East + West Lexus Lounge.

As for the national brands in PNC, Chick-fil-A will open an additional stand in section 109 this October with additional menu items.

More new features

Download the new Carolina Hurricanes mobile app on Apple and Google devices for game tickets, hockey news, stats, and video content. Later this season, the app will feature mobile order options for select vendors.

Also new this season, fans can save time by prepurchasing parking through Park Whiz. Depending on the event, you can save between $10 and $15 and plenty of time coming in to PNC.

In case you missed it, the Canes extended their lease at PNC until 2044, and the arena + surrounding area will undergo $800 million worth of upgrades, including a potential entertainment district and retail + hotel space.

🌙 Blazing ring of fire

Spot the annular solar eclipse in Raleigh

An annular eclipse.

On Saturday, Oct. 14, the western hemisphere will experience an annular solar eclipse, an astrological event where the moon passes between the sun and the Earth while at its farthest point from the Earth, resulting in a “ring of fire” effect. Although the path of the moon will not give NC a full ring of fire, you’ll still be able to witness a partial annular solar eclipse in Raleigh — here’s how.

A partial view of the eclipse will be visible for nearly three hours in Raleigh. According to TimeAndDate.com, Raleigh’s partial eclipse will begin at 11:56 a.m. this Saturday. Maximum eclipse will hit at approximately 1:20 p.m, and the partial eclipse will end at about 2:46 p.m.

While observing any solar event, make sure to protect your eyes — regular sunglasses won’t cut it. Order the fam some eclipse glasses or check NASA’s guide for other ways to experience the eclipse safely.

Peer at this astrological event through a telescope with NC Museum of Natural Sciences at Bicentennial Plaza and learn more from an astrophysicist.
