History of the team

The Courage are a Division I professional women’s soccer team that plays in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). It was established in January 2017 after owner Steve Malik acquired the Western New York Flash. Following their 2016 NWSL Championship Season, the team moved to Cary, and have since won:
  • Three consecutive NWSL Shields
  • The inaugural Women’s ICC Championship
  • The 2018 and 2019 NWSL Championships
Fun fact: Three-time Grand Slam tennis champion Naomi Osaka is an owner of the team.

Can’t miss games

Raleighites have four chances next month to see the Courage in action. Fans can buy season tickets, single-match tickets, or group tickets for any of the season’s games.

Check these dates, pencil a few in, and grab your fam + friends for night on the field:
  • Wednesday, May 3 at 7 p.m. vs. NJ/NY Gotham FC
  • Saturday, May 6 at 7 p.m. vs. Portland Thorns
  • Sunday, May 14 at 3 p.m. vs. OL Reign
  • Saturday, May 20 at 7 p.m. vs. Angel City FC
Pro tip: Buy tickets + parking passes online ahead of the game — getting through the line is stress-free with digital tickets.

The WakeMed Soccer Park complex also boasts interactive games and inflatables (that live in each corner of the stadium), making it the perfect scene for a Saturday with the family.

Gates open 1.5 hours before kickoff, so get there early to check out pre-game festivities + entertainment before the action starts on the field.*
See you at the field

We’re pleased to announce that “Raleigh poets’ night out” by Anna Weaver is the winner of our 2023 poetry contest.

This poem received the most votes from our audience. A big round of applause to our other finalists and everyone who participated in our contest — it was a true joy for the RALtoday Editorial team to read what you came up with.

Now, we’re handing it over to Anna to wow us with her creation.

“Raleigh poets’ night out”

Sitting in a bar downtown,
pruning minutes
back to the sweet,

we wrap another broken day
in a three-course rescue
of close talk

and swap perfect
for comfortable.
What happy erasure!

(If you’re trying to take
yourself offline,
this is the only way.)

After sundown, we forget
all limitation, practice
this city love-circus nonstop—

our must-dos discontinued,
playground gusto
unleashed.

If you’re looking at us,
we’re looking at you.
Please excuse our dazzling.
