A first look at West Street Dog

Raleighites have been wanting a doggy daycare in Downtown for years, according to Laura Muntel, co-owner of West Street Dog — so, she delivered.

This isn’t any regular ol’ doggy daycare though. West Street Dog is also a bar. Individuals 21+ are welcome to grab a drink + relax while watching their dog play in the off-leash dog area. Even if you don’t have a dog, you’re welcome to hang out at West Street Dog.

Located at 400 W. North St. (near Glenwood South), the business quietly opened last weekend with limited hours. The pet owner’s paradise is currently in a soft opening stage as they work to hire more staff + will announce its regular hours in the upcoming months. (Fun fact: Laura also owns the Raleigh location of Suite Paws Pet Resort & Spa.)

Before this location was home to West Street Dog, it was a nightclub. Laura + her family turned the dance floor into a faux grass park where dogs can shake their actual tails — no feathers included.

The new spot also offers dog boarding, daycare + bathing, as well as cat boarding. ProTip: In order to be eligible to participate in daycare, all dogs must be spayed or neutered and up to date on vaccines. Additionally, all dogs must pass a temperament test.

Currently, West Street Dog is open for meet and greet temperament tests on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Meet and greets will be in 30 minute increments + reservations are required. The bar will also be open Thurs., Aug. 12 from 4-7 p.m. and Fri., Aug. 13 from 3-9 p.m. and Sun., Aug 15 from 12-3.
