We’re kicking off Fourth of July weekend in the Triangle right now, with events to celebrate America’s 246 years as an independent country. Those celebrations include firework shows, family-friendly festivities + summertime soirees.

Independence Day

  • July 4th Fireworks Celebration | Dix Park | 6-11 p.m. | Free | Enjoy music, games, and fireworks starting at 9:30 p.m — free shuttles available to and from the park.
  • Star Spangled Block Party | Brier Creek Commons Shopping Center, 8131 Brier Creek Pkwy. | 8-9 p.m. | Free | Rock the block with DJ Mark McNally, face painting, a 360 photo booth, and fireworks galore.
  • Fourth of July Ceremony | North Carolina State Capitol | 11 a.m.-3 p.m. | Free | The Capitol will be open for self-guided tours and will be hosting family-friendly events like musical performances and activities.
  • Free Fishing Day | Various locations | All day | Free | This yearly event allows residents to try out the sport for fun — fishers are still required to follow other state fishing laws. 🎣
  • July 4th Celebration | Durham Bulls Athletic Park, 409 Blackwell St., Durham | 6:35 p.m. | $17+ | Watch the Bulls take on the Redbirds and end the night with an epic fireworks show beginning at ~9:15 p.m.
  • Cookout on The Roof | The Durham Hotel, 315 E. Chapel Hill St., Durham | 5-10:30 p.m. | Price of purchase | Celebrate the day with a classic cookout featuring hotdogs, burgers, picnic sides, and a pie eating contest with a $100 prize.
