10 Halloween events around the Triangle

The most special, spooky day of the year — Halloween — is fast approaching, and because apparently it’s frowned upon for adults to trick or treat, we’ve put together a list of other ways to celebrate + some classic fun for the kiddos.

The festivities have already started around the Triangle, but things are really kicking into gear this weekend and will continue through through Nov. 1, so pace yourselves.

We’ve got a list that includes everything from horror films to family-friendly gatherings to help you plan your haunted holiday.

🎃October 25

  • Pumpkin Flotilla | 4-7 p.m. | Bond Park Boathouse, 801 High House Rd., Cary | Free | Bring a carved pumpkin to float on Bond Park Lake at twilight. Lights and floating devices will be provided.

  • 9th Annual Day of the Dead 5K | 10 a.m.-2 p.m. | Centro, 106 S. Wilmington St., Raleigh | $30+ | Celebrate the impermanence of life + raise money and awareness for the Brentwood Boys and Girls Club. Yes, there is a costume contest.
  • Barktoberfest | 3-6 p.m. | Durham Central Park | Free | Canine costume contest, pet market, photo booth + doggie food drive. Come rain or shine.
  • Halloween Spooktacular: the Composer is Dead | 4 p.m. | Meymandi Concert Hall at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts | $27 | The N.C. Symphony will play tunes from spooky soundtracks like Harry Potter, Ghostbusters + more.
  • Raleigh Zombie Walk | 7 p.m. | Nash Square, downtown Raleigh | Free | This annual event is family-friendly. Be sure to read the list of guidelines before you gather.
  • Hotel Horror: A Halloween Murder Mystery | 8-11 p.m. | Aloft Hotel, 2100 Hillsborough St., Raleigh | 45+ | Part escape room + part murder mystery party. Each guest will receive a character bio when they arrive and will participate in an immersive investigation.

  • La Cueva Underground Dance Night: Halloween Edition | 8 p.m. | IMURJ, 300 S. McDowell St., Raleigh | $10 cash only | Latin music, salsa dancing + the chance to win prizes for best costumes. 18+
  • Halloween on Franklin Street | 8-10:30 p.m. | downtown Chapel Hill | Free | Every year, the town of Chapel Hill celebrates Halloween along Franklin Street, with all the revelry + costumes you can hope for.
  • Trap or Treat | 9 p.m.-2 a.m. | Proof, 1620 Glenwood Ave. | $5+ | A Halloween bash for young professionals aged 21 and up. Costumes are strongly encouraged and the best will be awarded with a prize.
