• Local food truck, The Dankery, is planning on opening its first brick-and-mortar location. The owner, Ian Burris, plans on opening the shop in the Historic Hayti Community in Durham while the 3-year-old food truck is getting a makeover. 

Cause

• United Way of the Greater Triangle recently unveiled its second 10 to Watch group, highlighting high-impact organizations in the area. The 10 nonprofit leaders on the list receive a ~$50,000 grant spread out over 2 years to aid their organization. Read more about this year’s 10 to Watch here. 💰 (The News & Observer)

• An affiliate of NY-based Blackstone Real Estate purchased a 260,000 sqft industrial site in the Regional Commerce Center (near Durham Technical Community College) for $43.1 million. This marks Blackstone’s second acquisition in the park — the first was purchased for $23.9 million in July. (Triangle Business Journal)

Edu

• The NC Board of Education approved $10 million in federal funding for school nutrition programs. The US Dept. of Agriculture issued regulation waivers for schools to serve free breakfast + lunch to students during the 2021-22 year. The federal funding will be used to hire and retain staff to ensure this plan. 🍎

Award

• Voting is now open for Midtown Magazine’s 2022 Diamond Awards. Participants can vote in 6 categories including health and beauty, professional services, shopping, services, entertainment and relaxation + dining. Voting is open through Mon., Oct. 25. 🏆

Watch

• A new cooking series, The Key Ingredient With Sheri Castle, will introduce viewers to farmers, fishermen, and chefs from across NC. The series will explore each guest’s connection to local ingredients + share their own special recipe. It premieres Thurs., Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m on PBS NC.  

Eat

• Need dinner plans? These Raleigh-based Instagram foodies have you covered. Raleigh Magazine asked local influencers about their favorite dishes in town, like Tacos Gringos from La Santa + Shoo Mercy from Tupelo Honey. 🍽
• A little birdie told RALtoday that the Jubala Coffee location that was rumored to be coming to North Hills last year is close to opening. Jubala will be on the ground level of Park Central Apartments + feature room for 65 guests, a new pastry program, and a full coffee bar.

Drink

• Olde Raleigh Distillery, located at 209 N. Arendell Ave. in Zebulon, has released its 3rd batch of their flagship brand, Olde Raleigh Whiskey Society. Raleigh-native Brandon McCraney opened the distillery in January 2021. Bottles retail for ~$80 + are available for purchase on-site. 🥃
