Yesterday, we shared that DeWitt Carolinas — a Raleigh-based firm — had released initial renderings of the forthcoming mixed-use development called Midtown Exchange. Today, we’re sharing additional details about this massive project, slated to begin Phase One of construction next year near North Hills.

By the numbers: 💰 The anticipated cost of the project is $1 billion 🧱 The development will consist of two mirrored buildings, MTX One and MTX Two, connected by a sky bridge 📐 MTX One is expected to feature 330,000 square feet of office space, 19,000 square feet of retail space + 5,000 square feet of conference space 🏗️ Each building will be 12 stories high

Once completed, the Midtown Exchange project will comprise a total 40 acres. In addition to the towers’ office and retail space, there will be 1,500+ residential units, an upscale 300-room hotel, and four-acre urban park connected to the Capital Area Greenway.

Development ○ The US Department of Veterans Affairs will open a new multi-specialty, outpatient clinic in Garner, as an extension of the Durham VA office. In addition to providing expanded services for local veterans, the $100 million project — which has not yet begun construction — is also expected to create hundreds of new jobs. 🇺🇸(Triangle Business Journal) ○ Local coworking company Loading Dock broke ground this week on a new space in Wake Forest. The $3 million project will revitalize a historic 24,000-square-foot building located at 525 South White Street + is expected to ultimately house 100-400 companies. Travel ○ Based on current flight reservations, RDU is expecting ~83,500 passengers to pass through the airport this week, up 7% over the past month. To accommodate holiday travelers — the busiest day is expected to be Sunday, Nov. 29 — airport staff have implemented additional health and safety precautions, including hand sanitizing stations + social distancing reminders. Round two of the Downtown Raleigh Alliance’sDuke Energy Storefront Revitalization Grant is underway. This reimbursement grant allows business owners to build e-commerce web pages, create outdoor seating, and upgrade health + safety elements for their businesses.
During round one, thegrant program gave $288,100 to 63 local businesses in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nearly 60% of businesses that were chosen are owned and operated by women and/or minorities.
