Longtime Raleighite and Broadway alum Lauren Kennedy Brady is settling into Theatre Raleighâs permanent North Raleigh location. The professional, nonprofit theater company performed in Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts for well over a decade before moving into a former church space at 6638 Old Wake Forest Rd. in June 2020.
Now transformed into a modern performing arts hub, the theater is gearing up for its 2023 Main Stage Season with Lauren at the helm as artistic director. We asked Lauren eight questions about upcoming performances, auditions, and her favorite local spot to grab a bite before a show. Keep reading for a preview of whatâs to come in the new year.
First up is âJersey Boysâ in April. Where are you in the production process?
Weâre gearing up for auditions in January. Weâll have awesome Broadway talent and some amazing local regional artists as well. Iâm so excited because Matt Bogart, who starred as Nick Massi in âJersey Boysâ on Broadway for five years, will be directing it.
Theatre Raleigh is heading into its 14th season.

Whatâs something that most people donât know about Theatre Raleigh?
We have four performance spaces, not only for our shows, but for other performers like up-and-coming theater companies, singer-songwriters, comedians, or really anyone.
Whereâs your favorite spot in Raleigh to grab dinner before a show?
Lafayette Village â they have a lot of great restaurants, coffee shops, and wine bars.

Fiction: âBig Fishâ by Daniel Wallace | Release date: October 1998 | This story of a manâs life, told from father to son, was adapted into a film by Tim Burton.
Learn something new: âNative Places: Drawing as a Way to Seeâ by Frank Harmon | Release date: September 2018 | This Raleigh architect paired watercolor sketches with mini-essays about the delight found in ordinary places.
Personal stories: âMergers and Acquisitionsâ by Cate Doty | Release date: May 2021 | This memoir takes readers behind-the-scenes of the weddings section of The New York Times.
If you ask us, where you read the book is almost as important as the book itself. Share your go-to reading spot.
