Charlotte is home to the newest Major League Soccer (MLS) expansion team and have officially announced that the club will be known as Charlotte Football Club, or Charlotte FC. The club’s secondary name will be CLTFC.
This is the first MLS team in the Carolinas + they will have their inaugural season in 2022 and play their home games at Bank of America Stadium.
What does the crest represent?
The circular shape is inspired by a classical coin, recognizing Charlotte as a major US financial capital + its history as the first American city with its own branch of the US mint.
The spires of the crown are meant to represent Charlotte’s four wards and the royal history that the city boasts. DYK: Charlotte is the original Queen City named in honor of Queen Charlotte Sophia of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the wife of Britain’s King George III.
The engraved typography pays tribute to Charlotte’s minting history, while commemorating the inaugural season of the club in 2022 with the phrase “minted 2022.”
The colors of the crest are officially Carolina blue, black, silver, and white.
So far, the club has signed Sergio Ruiz, a midfielder from the second division Spanish team Racing Santander.
