Raleigh-based Bandwidth — a communications software company — broke ground yesterday on a new $100 million headquarters, featuring amenities like an olympic-sized soccer field, an amphitheater, and a Montessori school for employees’ children.
The campus, located at 2201 Edwards Mill Rd., sprawls across 40 acres and will accommodate for the company’s current 1,000 employees — plus room for 1,500 more.
Including a 5-story office building with an on-site cafe, plans also include a basketball court, a fitness center + 2 miles of walking trails.
Bandwidth employees are already back to working in person 5 days a week, and the new campus is designed to allow employees to have a balanced lifestyle while still going into the office every day.
“The close collaboration and creative energy of working in person is a key part of our culture,” David Morken, Bandwidth CEO, said at the groundbreaking ceremony. “This building will bring all of us together in an environment of innovation, collaboration, and shared experience more than has ever been possible before.”
One way Bandwidth aims to promote work-life balance at the office is by offering employees a 90 minute workout lunch program. “Bandmates” can play sports together, workout in the gym, or take a walk — all during their lunch break.
Bandwidth (NASDAQ: BAND) was founded in 1999 when David was on 3 months paid leave from the Marines. The company went public in 2017, valued at ~$300 million + is currently valued at ~$3.25 billion.
